OMG...RIP control board. Use some rectifier diodes on the air solenoids if you're not gonna use a relay on them. One bad feedback and that 24v will fry the control board for your Ruida.
So I’ve never heard of this being ever a problem and I’ve looked at many forums and videos.
@@MSRWorkshop anytime a magnetic switch closes, it poses a chance to create its own feedback. those air solenoids are magnetic solenoids. while it might never cause a feedback, it could. i will always be willing to throw a 5 cent diode on to even keep the "potential" of destroying a multi c-note controller in check. This is a wikipedia explaining the issue a little better. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flyback_diode
I'm pretty disappointed so far. The build quality feels cheap and flimsy, and the software is clunky and difficult to use. I've had a lot of trouble getting it to work properly, and even when it does, the cuts aren't very precise. I would definitely recommend spending a little more money and getting a better quality machine.
The first thing you’re doing wrong is not using Lightbourn Software that comes with any machine is always going to poor. Get Lyburn and start learning how to use that. It will change the way you laser. Also, you need to make sure that your mirrors are aligned otherwise your cuts will not be precise and then make sure you are using the Z axis focus . But the big thing is Lightburn you must get Lightbourn to really enjoy what you were doing
Jesus. Over $1K of hollowing tools just to turn a $50 vase. Hmm
watch the Alex Snodgrass video on how to install tires he does it in less than 2 1/2 minutes and he knows what he's talking about he works for manufacturers of bandsaws and doers seminars on bandsaw use.
Thanks for the tip. I’ve actually watched many of his videos and he’s done some seminars at our local Woodcraft. I actually used to work for a number of years. I can’t remember off the top of my hand how he recommends putting bandsaw tires on, but from my personal experience changing a number of tires out hands down the easiest way to replace the tires that is just to take the wheel off . Most of the time it’s just one bolt, which is pretty simple. I absolutely do not agree with any theory that you should soak your tires and boiling water because a lot of times what happens is it makes the rubber more pliable but the instant it cools off, it may not return to its original size.
A lot of those bugs are going to clog your coils
They will so every year I do a thorough cleaning
Excellent review. Learned a lot and you presented information I will look for when evaluating other saws.
❤
is it hard to import photos into lightburn im about to purchase one of these lasers and had a few ideas for my man cave
Depends on the type of photo but not really. If you’re trying to laser something to make it look photorealistic then getting the settings and Lightbourn to make it look good it’s fairly challenging, but if you’re making outlines of artwork and it’s pretty easy to get set up. But in any case getting photos in to Lightburn is the easy part.. adjusting settings is where the challenge comes in.
@@MSRWorkshop ah ok thanks for the info so its more of playing around and adjusting to get the photo to where is decent or likeable in detail
So you still have both the Jet and Powermatic? That would be an awesome luxury.
You must be a Democrat! NOT HAPPY with this grill?? NO grill marks?? Pathetic! Been using this grill for years and grates heat up quick! Perfect grill marks on our steaks! If you are going to shield off the flame, you mind as well go inside and cook on your stovetop... God luck with these cheep grates you got on there now, they wont last!!! FOOL!
Excellent video. Thanks 👍
Thank you for this video I really needed to know this I just bought one for myself or actually I bought two.
Glad I could help!
Should we be concerned that it will kill friendly animals/insects like bees, lizards and frogs? What solution have you found to help eliminate this? Perhaps some smaller-hold mesh wire around the unit so just small insects like mosquitoes, flys, moths can enter through adapted smaller holes? What idea have you folks come up with as a solution because it's one of the dangers/disappoints at this point to use electronic to "throw the baby out with the dishwater?" Thanks
So I’ve never found that bees are a problem because they are not attracted to UV light. And then frogs just eat the dead bugs below. It’s like a free meal for them..
@@MSRWorkshop - I can't even get FLIES to go into the UV lighted bug killer. It's mostly small "light bugs" that hang around/attracted to lights at night. Flies must be to smart for the unit. I only run it during the day when flies are around. In nighttime, I turn it off and put it back on during the daytime.
Great video are you still liking the system?
Yes, very heavy duty.. now the giant stabilizer I think they have possibly made a few changes since I bought mine because I’ve had it for a very long time but like I said in the video, I would’ve put a weld all the way around the on both sides instead of just welding it which would’ve made it more rigid
Hi! So I put my settings to this on two 1.5x1.5 rubber stamps, but it says it will take 30 hours? Where the hell did I go wrong?
Look at your lines per inch under your cut settings and see how high it set Also, if you’re using millimeters per second instead of millimeters per minute that will make a difference
I think we can all relate to the feeling he had when he put that first stamp down and it was backwards. Good stuff.
Ha ha, good spot 😉
Great video. I find it "troubling" that you spend thousands on a brand new laser, and you have to upgrade it, in order to use it to it's max. potential.
To be truthful, this machine is thousands less than one that has all of this stuff done. And by doing it yourself, you’re actually saving a ton more money. if you look at lasers like thunder lasers, they’re about double what you pay for these. It might be good for someone who wants to do zero upgrades and just have a turnkey machine, but you’re going to be spending much much more. Omtech lasers are fantastic lasers and for not much money you can do the upgrades I did and save thousands.
@@MSRWorkshop I can see that, thank you for the info! 🙂
Yep. It’s a bandsaw.
Upgrading the firmware was such a pain in the rear - because Longers website has the firmware but they dont supply the tools to program the firmware file for the Ray 5, BUT I found if you goto the 5watt version of the firmware downloads they have the tools packaged with the firmware, I then ended up using those (tools) and the firmware for my 10w laser to get it programmed - literally took me a whole day because they don't package them all consistently. UGH Love the engraver but will be switching brands next upgrade. Seriously why be this unorganized?
Yes, the firmer upgrade was terrible. I actually had to call longer because it wasn’t upgrading for me and they just replaced the whole computer board.
I own a 2014 Fuji Nevada green, I have been making major updates on it... My new drive train is a SRAM NX eagle 12 speed. A RockShox recon silver fork 180 mm SRAM rotors (front and back) SRAM level brakes. Specialized fast track 2.1 tubeless tires... Finally, this a incredible bike now!
Yes, and I bet the upgrading part was the fun !!

Thanks for this video! Gonna order the TW. ? If you dont have a drum sander, how would you recommend sanding the rough cut side of the thin veneer?
I would use a little bit of double-sided tape and tape it to a nice flat surface say a board that’s been pre-jointed and then just go over it with a sander
@@MSRWorkshop WOW! Never thought of that!! THank you so much!!!!
Recently, I purchased a Monport K40, but despite my efforts to set it up properly, it wasn't functioning correctly. After several attempts, I decided to contact the company to arrange a return. They instructed me to send a photo, assuring me they would then provide a UPS label. I sent the photo as requested, but after that, despite numerous follow-up emails, they suddenly ceased communication. It's been weeks now, which feels like a joke. When investing in mechanical products like this, one always expects the company to provide support, yet Monport failed to do so. I am dissatisfied with the experience. The device remains in my possession. It's important to be cautious, folks.
So what’s going on that’s causing it to not function, right
@@MSRWorkshop There were issues with the balance settings. Instead of going right when it should, it went left, and vice versa. The laser power wasn't functioning, and it wasn't engraving. In addition to such problems, the main issue is the lack of honesty from the company towards the customer after making promises. Even if the product had no issues, it might not have met my expectations. While many companies allow returns in such processes, Monport does not. I am grateful that I did not purchase a more expensive product. @MSRWorkshop By the way, you're doing great. Thank you for your sharing knowledge and effort
Brilliant. Totally the video i needed to see. Cheers to your winged friend watching in the background. 🪶
Ha, thanks :)
seems straight forward ! I intend to make a table that the top moves up and down so i may do larger pieces with my rotary .
Lots of good info here, thanks. But the audio is way too quiet!
Sorry about that
Wonderful tutorial. Thank you! This has taken my trepidation away. Am going to try making one.
Cool mod. My one suggestion would be to attach the base of the jack to the floor of the machine, drill a hole in the front of the machine, and extend the jack adjustment through that hole, so it would be much easier to make adjustments.
Yeah I thought about that but the only problem is that the hack handle raises with the bed, it isn’t stationary. So a hole wouldn’t work 😢
Two years later, would you get this saw over the Rikon 10-326?
Well…. Not sure. Since I don’t often change blades and keep it with a small 1/8 blade. I have it set up for that and it works well for that. If I did resawing or another demanding job I’m not sure. The fence on the Rikon is definitely better. The dust collection on the jet is better and the blade changes are easier. There are definite pros and cons to both
That additional fur trim is absolutely beautiful!! Deffiently adds to the jacket 😍
I think so too!
Very smart safety modifications, quite surprise these were not thought of in the original design. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Great idea. I just made something else, but may just try this. Trying to think on how to have it rest or lock in position worth out having to hold it. Also been wondering about using brushes for surround like CNC.
So if you click on my link under the description, you’ll see the new and improved version where I’ve added a base to it so it can be clamped down. I think, adding the CNC bristles actually disrupts airflow, and it might not work as well
@@MSRWorkshopoh, ok, so a lip to clamp down. I really need slots to allow for clamps, long overdue. I just saw nice trick with strapping stiff wire to the hose to allow it articulate and lock in place. May try something like that.
I don't know why i bought this, it's so darned hard to clean.
I’ve never cleaned mine. It’s always come out clean. I fined if you soap and water it to much it strips the oils off and it can stick. I also use oil in my batter. Not sure if you do. also do not use any spray oils
@@MSRWorkshop thank you, I appreciate your advice.
Cool needed this video
Are you connecting to the air assist switch on the motherboard, or simply unplugging when not needed?
I’m just unplugging it if I need it. If you want to make it semi automatic you can connect it to a smart switch and just turn it on and off via Alexa or some other voice command. Not sure this board has the option of Adding air assist that talks to light burn.
@@MSRWorkshop I sent the Monport Support folks the question. Thought you'd like to see the response: Here’s your response from Monportlaser Randolph MeederHello, Can an small air compressoe be connected to the air assist switch of the motherboard? Are the air compressors being installed in the K40s available for porchase? Thank you. Monportlaser Connecting a Small Air Compressor to the Air Assist Switch: Yes, it is possible to connect a small air compressor to the air assist switch of your laser cutter’s motherboard. The air assist feature helps blow away debris and smoke during laser cutting or engraving, resulting in cleaner and more precise cuts. Here are the steps to achieve this: Pressure Switch Wiring: First, you’ll need to wire a pressure switch to your air compressor. The pressure switch monitors the air pressure and controls the compressor’s operation. You can follow a guide like this one to wire the pressure switch correctly. Relay Setup: Next, use a relay to interface between the pressure switch and the air assist switch on your laser cutter’s motherboard. When the air assist is needed (e.g., during cutting or engraving), the relay will activate the compressor. Configure Software: In your laser control software (such as LightBurn), ensure that the air assist feature is enabled. LightBurn can send commands to turn the compressor on and off based on your design layers. Connect the Relay: Connect the relay’s control input (usually low voltage, like 5V or 12V DC) to the air assist output pin on your laser cutter’s motherboard. When the software signals air assist, the relay will switch the compressor on. Power Supply: Finally, power the air compressor separately (usually 230V AC for your Hailea 318 compressor) and ensure it’s safely grounded.View your conversation Your conversation history expires if no reply is sent within 7 days © 2024 Monportlaser

T-Fal makes a very similar auto grill just like this unit. There is a way to recalibrate the electronic buttons on the control panel of there unit. It is posted on u-tube. UNDER FIX T-FAL GRILL . Im sure the Al-Clad grill has to have a way to recalibrate there unit. Contact Al-Clad service section. Im sure they would send you the instructions if requested. I recalibrated my T-Fal grill and it works like new. Mine was stuck on manual temperature only. Now the buttons work again. GOOD LUCK.
I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra with 60,000 miles on it, but it is not nearly as clean. How do you do it?
There is "Shipping weight", which factors in the size of the box as well as the weight.
why you did not choose the ATKA ?
Because I thought this personally looked a bit more stylish instead of utilitarian, and that’s the look that I was going for. I liked the buttons.
@@MSRWorkshopThanks for the review . I have three Desna bomber jackets and of the parkas I think the one you picked was the best .
Monport machines don't work and there is no support.
Plenty of people using monport machines successfully
They work great and are quite powerful and affordable compared to their 40w diode counterpart.
Just fixed mine! Thanks a lot!! Easiest way to clock it, is to match the rust marks on the shaft gears with the rust on the tooth of the gear from the actuator. I installed it using that method, added the larger cog as it will only fit the smaller cog one way. Rotated the gears as to loosen the shaft up. Mine was seized from lack of use, rotating the gears to pull that shaft back and forth while the truck was in neutral. So the small cog matched the rust spots, large cog on top, then install the cover last. Make sure to return the shaft to the 2wd position before all this. Also I disconnected the positive battery terminal to avoid lights on the dash, which worked. Also my motor was extremely rusted, can’t believe I freed it up. Didn’t solder the connections just reversed sides of the post so they are under tension when I reinstalled the motor. Works for now, will solder later. I did this process for both actuators, I have both 4 hi and lo now.
Great to hear !!
Many thanks, bought the plans. But I'll fangle a more user-friendly, springy hose attachment that means I don't have to hold it down. Thanks again 👍🏼
Thanks for the video. I’d like to hear more about how you double pass on your jointer
Will do!
will a 3 Gallon, 1/3 HP, 110 PSI compressor work?
It will but it’s gonna cycle a lot just because the tank isn’t very big so it’s gonna be running a lot. if that doesn’t bother you then it should be fine. If it does, you’re gonna want to get a much bigger tank.
@@MSRWorkshop Thanks for the quick response, planning on getting the laser and following all the upgrades you have done so far.
Great video! Can I ask where you got the front panel hole plugs/grommets from?
Amazon. One of the videos has the link but you can also just search for grommet plugs and they come in a multi pack.
Blu max tire set 20" $255. 3 rolls scotch 88 - $9
That’s really expensive for that. They must have to custom make them for you.
I saw them on E-bay several at that price.@@MSRWorkshop
